We started in London, running a high-performing creative agency for brand giants like Disney, Red Bull and Sony.


Then came an unexpected plot twist: Ground Source Geothermal.
 

Through a mix of curiosity and opportunity, we found ourselves getting involved – not just as a supplier of creative services, but as investors, collaborators, and eventually, manufacturers.

Our team was instrumental in the rapid rise and global success of GTD Desco, the geothermal drill rig and specialist equipment manufacturer - developing the brand, creative executions and products that disrupted the industry and set new standards, taking it from zero to a global market leader in just a few years.

And so our journey in ground source geothermal continues – only now, we’ve opened our services to the entire sector, not just a single manufacturer. We’ve gone ‘all-in’ to move our industry forward – sorry Disney, but the success of this industry actually matters!

WHY

HOW WE GOT HERE

We spent the first part of our careers running a high-performing creative agency in London. Solving familiar problems with big-name clients - Disney, Sony, Red Bull, Cisco Systems, British Airways, Suntory.


Then something unexpected happened – a real plot twist!
Through a mix of curiosity and opportunity, we found ourselves getting involved in the geothermal drilling sector. Not just as a supplier of services – but as investors, collaborators, and eventually manufacturers. We helped build GTD Desco - a business that would go on to become the leading name in geothermal-specific drill rigs and equipment globally.


The rigs were engineered and built in South Korea by Desco. Tough, proven, and quietly effective in their home market. In the UK, Maurice Bosch and his sons started using them to gain a real competitive edge as geothermal drilling contractors. It worked. Their productivity was off the charts, and their reputation grew fast.


Together we all saw the potential to take that success further, to shape the GTD brand, scale the business, refine the products and tell the story of these rigs in a way the industry hadn’t seen before. So we stepped in. We created the GTD Desco brand, designed the identity, developed marketing, and opened doors to the global market, taking GTD Desco from zero to a market leader in just a few years!


But here’s the thing: we weren’t just making brochures and websites. We were stood in the field, with the drillers operating the machinery. Solving real problems alongside real contractors. We learned what matters, co-developed equipment innovations, and brought new approaches to driving the industry forward. We understood what makes a rig operator choose one platform over another – and what keeps them loyal. That’s not something you pick up in a briefing. You live it.
That experience changed everything for us.


We realised there was a huge gap in the market, not for another generalist creative agency, it needed one that already understood it. One that doesn’t need onboarding. One that knows the difference between a PCD and drag bit. One that can write, shoot, design, and produce content that doesn’t just look good – it lands, because it’s grounded in operational reality.


So we created SubSurface.

A creative agency built from the ground up for the geothermal and green energy sector. We’ve lived it, built it, scaled it. But it’s about more than one brand or one manufacturer. SubSurface exists to support the entire industry – helping drillers, contractors, manufacturers, engineers, and advocates tell their story, attract talent, and drive adoption. A big part of our focus is workforce development – creating tools, content, and training that bring new people into the sector and drives standards higher. And if I’m honest, it’s personal. I want to look back and know we helped move the needle, that we played a real part in making ground source heating and cooling a mainstream global solution. That’s the mission.
